DD1000 - Research - Paper Boy

Paper Boy

In 1984 Atari released paperboy, a game whereby the player controlls a paperboy who cycles down the street attempting to deliver papers along his route. the players job is to control the paperboys cycling and to throw the papers sideways to the doors of the subscribers and through the windows of non subscribers.

DD1000 - Research - I robot

in 1983 Atari published the first arcade game to use 3D polygon graphics. This game was known as i robot, in it the player controlled a robot who rebelled against big brother, the player had to turn blue sections into red in order to defeat the eye on multiple levels.


DD1000 - Research - Star Trek

In 1982 Sega released a video game based on the "Star trek" BlockBuster, this game was called "Star Trek, Strategic Operations Simulator" and involved the player piloting the starship enterprise and using it to defend "sectors" from invading Klingon ships.


DD1000 - Research - Frogger

in 1981 Konami released "Frogger" a simple game that involved the player controlling a multitude of frogs whom they had to navigate across the screen one at a time. This game remains a symbol of nostalgia for many gamers to this day.

in 1980 possibly one of the most influential video games in history was released by Namco, the game was known as "Pac man", the game has the most brand awareness of any video game among the american public.

in 1979 Atari released "Asteroids" their best selling video game of all time, this game is certainly one of the most well known arcade games of all time.

DD1000 - Research - Space invaders

in 1978 Taito kicked off an era that would be known as the golden age of arcade video games, and they did so y releasing a game that many people know and love. "Space invaders" this simple and yet enthralling defense game is known world wide as one of the most popular arcade games of all time.


DD1000 - research - Space Wars

In 1977 Cinematronics released "Space wars" an early spaceship combat game, and the first vector graphics arcade game, it featured 2 ships controlled by the players, they could maneuver around the screen and shoot at one another.

in 1976 Atari released "Breakout" a popular game that still has clones being made even today. this game is one of the most well known examples of arcade games.

The first game made to depict a gun "Gun fight"(Known as western gun in japan) was released in 1975 by Taito, this game was also the first game to use a microprocessor, making it a leap forward in technological use as well as in the fact that it shows a gun.

Released by Taito in 1974 "Basketball" was one of the earliest examples of sprite graphics, this means that the moving parts were represented by images in game, this game did not however feature animated sprites.

DD1101 - Vehicle design

my vehicle design is a motorbike of sorts, featuring only one wheel, the back end hovers using the thrust generated by the jets, the back end also features a rear propeller to assist with turning.

DD1000 - arcade games

for this assignment, me and my teammate have been given the task of researching arcade games in history, in this post i will be showing my research on Computer Space the first arcade game to be sold commercially,

















the game consisted of a simple two directional shooter, whereby the player controls a spaceship in the centre of the screen and there are two flying saucers moving in tandem on the bottom and top of the screen the player had to avoid shots coming from the saucers while returning fire, if the player was killed the saucers scored a point and if a saucer was destroyed the player scored a point, at the end of a ninety second period if the player was in the lead they were awarded another 90 seconds, otherwise the game was over.

DD1101 - weapons and armour design - elephant final

once i returned home from class today i decided to finish the elephant i started in class the finished result will be used as the large weapon for my weapons and armour design assignment, it can be seen below.

today i began work on the weapons and armour design assignment for class, the first design is of the large weapon, when finished it will be a cannon pulled by an elephant, both the cannon and the elephant will be ridden by an individual, these two men will be the focus of this assignment, the part finished drawing can be seen below.

DD1101 - Rachael Hael Character design - Hand in

i have just finished the final hand in for the Character design assignment, i read the book scar night by Alan Campbell, i was then assigned the character Rachael Hael, i used multiple sketches to prepare and to decide on the design, they can be seen in earlier posts.

DD1101 - Scar night Character

Scar night     Rachael Hael

for the book scar night i was given the task of drawing out the character Rachael Hael as i imagine her, to begin with i drew some sketches these sketches can be seen below.
Then i took the ideas i developed during the sketching process and began to draw my peice the image so far can be seen below.


i will post more information about my progress on this peice whenever such progress is made.

for the next part of my portfolio hand in i will be submitting my clay model, it is a model of the cartoon character "Wolverine" from the X-men, i am rather proud of this work and enjoyed learning to sculpt as it was something i had never tried before.
