Vorticism
origins
Vorticism was an off-shoot of Cubism and begun in 1912 at the Rebel art centre in London, it began with a man called Wyndham Lewis but the name Vorticism was not associated with the movement until 1913, when an american artist called Ezra Pound began to paint in this style and gave it its name.important people
The main name in Vorticism was Wyndham Lewis, an English painter and author who was born on the 18th of November 1882 and died on the 7th of march 1957, one of his Vorticism styled pieces 'Workshop' is shown below.
As you can see the work has the main characteristics of Vorticism, bold lines, harsh colours and angles that draw the viewers eye to the centre of the page.
Another important artist of the Vorticism movement was Lawrence Atkinson, a Mancunian artist poet and musician who was born on the 17th of January 1873, and died on the 21st of September 1931, one of his futurism artworks 'the lake' is shown below.
